FIRST QUARTER

A gold star on green background, representing the de la Salle Brothers, founders of the
de la Salle Catholic Christian schools of which St Illtyds was one. Links also to the star
of Bethlehem.

SECOND QUARTER

Three gold chevrons on a blue background representing Saint John the Baptist de la Salle.

THIRD QUARTER

A gold chalice, representing the Holy Grail and hence St Illtyd.

The grail connection comes from the fact that St Illtyd, the Saint of Llantwit Major, is said
to have been a knight of King Arthur's round table. The round table knights were said to
have been keepers of the Holy Grail, which was the cup supposedly used by Christ and
His Apostles at the Last Supper.

The blue background represents the sea journeys of St Illtyd, the St Illtyds College Patron,
in his missionary travels to Armorica (Brittany).

FOURTH QUARTER

The Prince of Wales plume of three ostrich feathers in silver, representing Wales.
